Details

The Ecooda GT-Fisher Three-Piece Travel Popping Rod is designed for anglers targeting powerful saltwater species with poppers, stickbaits and other surface lures. Its three-piece construction packs down to just 85 cm, making it easier to store and transport on flights, road trips and offshore fishing adventures.

The lightweight yet strong blank is designed for repeated casting and demanding fights. Gold-tone fittings and distinctive rainbow guide wraps give the GT-Fisher a premium finish, while the included carry bag keeps all three rod sections organised during transport.

Key Features

  • Three-piece travel design with an 85 cm packed length
  • Designed for heavy-duty saltwater popping and stickbait fishing
  • Suitable for powerful pelagic and reef species
  • Lightweight yet strong blank for easier casting and fish control
  • Distinctive rainbow guide wraps with gold-tone accents
  • GT-Fisher carry bag included
  • Two power options for different line and lure requirements

Ideal Australian Fishing Applications

The GT-Fisher is well suited to Australia’s demanding saltwater fishing conditions. Its portable three-piece construction makes it a practical option for anglers travelling to tropical islands, remote coastal areas and offshore fishing destinations.

Recommended applications include:

  • Offshore boat fishing along the Queensland and Western Australian coasts
  • Reef-edge and deep-water structure fishing
  • Tropical island and remote coastal fishing trips
  • Casting poppers and stickbaits around bait schools
  • Working surface lures over reefs, drop-offs and current lines
  • Chasing pelagic fish around offshore reefs and headlands
  • Fly-in and road-trip fishing where compact storage is important

Always select the rod model, line, leader and lure weight according to the target species and local fishing conditions.

Target Species

The Ecooda GT-Fisher is designed for powerful saltwater predators, including:

  • Giant trevally
  • Yellowfin tuna
  • Longtail tuna
  • Southern bluefin tuna
  • Spanish mackerel
  • Yellowtail kingfish
  • Cobia
  • Large queenfish
  • Coral trout
  • Other hard-fighting reef and pelagic species

The actual suitability will depend on fish size, drag pressure, fishing location and the line and leader system used.

How to Use

Poppers

Cast the popper beyond the target area and allow the line to settle. Point the rod tip slightly downward, then use firm downward sweeps to make the lure push water and create a strong surface splash.

Pause briefly between sweeps to give following fish an opportunity to strike. Use longer pauses when fish are hesitant and faster retrieves when predators are actively feeding.

Stickbaits

For floating stickbaits, use short rod-tip sweeps with controlled slack line to create a side-to-side swimming action. Vary the retrieve speed and include occasional pauses to imitate an injured baitfish.

Sinking stickbaits can be allowed to descend before being retrieved with longer sweeps, short twitches or a steady winding action.

Fighting Fish

Keep the rod loaded smoothly and avoid sudden high-sticking angles. Use the rod’s lower section and the reel drag together to apply steady pressure. When fighting a powerful fish close to the boat, keep the rod angle controlled and follow the fish around the bow or stern when necessary.

Before fishing, make sure all three sections are fully seated and aligned. Check the joints regularly during extended casting sessions.
